Holding on

One day I was working outside, so I brought Caleb out with me and set him in his bouncy seat. He fell asleep with his little hand on his toy, dangling in the air. I thought it was so cute and had to get few pictures.

Watermelons

We didn't get much from our garden this year due to planting late and then not really having the time to maintain it. Paul mainly did it so we could showcase it as we showed the house to potential renters. However, we did get 2 nice watermelons. We've eaten one and it was delicious!

Visit from Grandma

My mom came down for a visit in August while Paul went on his last C-17 flight. It was nice to have some company and a little help while Paul was gone. Grandma just can't get enough of Caleb!

I'm getting better at this, huh? Here are some pictures of Caleb from August.

Dad's wedding weekend

Early in August, Paul, Caleb and I flew up to New York for Paul's dad's wedding. It was Caleb's first flight and he did great, although it was a rough trip for other reasons. First, the second leg of our trip from Atlanta to Syracuse got cancelled. The next flight they wanted to get us on left the next day and we would have missed the wedding...that wasn't going to work. So they put us on a flight leaving soon. When we got to the gate (about 10 minutes early), the flight was already gone. Finally they got us on a flight into Philadelphia, then on to Syracuse.

The trip took us an extra 5 or so hours. That wasn't the worst of it though. Because I assumed everything would go smoothly and we'd get to our final destination about 5 PM, I only packed a few diapers and one change of clothes in the diaper bag. One blow-out after the very first leg of the trip and Caleb was already into his extra set of clothes for the day. After all the waiting around in the Atlanta airport, i had to change him again and was left with only one diaper for the rest of the trip...and we were far from our destination. No place in the Atlanta airport sold diapers - how ridiculous! On the plane, we asked our flight attendant if she knew of any place in the Philadelphia airport that sold diapers. She couldn't help us. However, a very nice lady near us overheard our question and gave us an extra she had for her little girl. It was a size 5, and way too big for Caleb, but I was grateful for anything...I had visions of us carrying a filthy, soiled, stinky child all over the airport and on the plane - gross! We actually did find some diapers in the Philly airport and paid $8 for 2 (which were size 4 and still too big, by the way)!

When we finally got to Syracuse, our bags were lost, which we pretty much expected with all the craziness. So we had to stop at Walmart for diapers (we had packed a bunch, but they were in our checked baggage) and for toiletries, like toothbrushes and toothpaste. I wore Paul's cousin's wife's pajamas to bed that night and Paul wore his cousins underwear and socks the next day because we didn't have anything but the clothes on our backs. I thought I was going to have to wear what I wore on the plane to the wedding, and Paul would have to wear his mustard stained jeans (did I mention he was IN the ceremony, as Best Man?), but about 45 minutes before the ceremony started our bags got delivered. We've never been so happy to see our stuff!!!

The wedding was casual and fun and we had a nice time catching up with family and friends. It was country themed, so everyone wore jeans and cowboy boots. Here are a few pictures.

After that, Paul, Caleb and I drove 3 hours to Paul's mom's house to visit with her. It was a short trip, but worth it. We stayed with her that night and Caleb got to sleep in the same crib that his daddy and aunt and uncle slept in when they were babies.

Our last stop was to see Billy, Raney and Jesse - friends of Paul's from when he was in college. He lived with Billy and Raney for a few semesters. Their son, Jesse, was a pretty good photographer! Funny to see a child's perspective!

I've been bad...really bad

.......about blogging. If you hadn't noticed. I didn't realize that so many people checked my blog (I only get comments from a few people), until some of you mentioned that you miss my posts and have asked if I'm going to get back into it. Well, here is my attempt to catch up. It's been a busy summer, with 3 weddings, the AC going out, a house hunting trip, putting our house up for rent, etc. I'll try to be better, but I can't promise anything. Paul and I only have one more month here in Charleston, then we're moving to San Antonio for 4 months, then to Columbus, MS. So we have a lot going on. But I will try to keep you updated. Especially with a few pics of Caleb. He's growing so fast! He was 16.3 pounds about 3 weeks ago! He's 3 1/2 months now. He is smiling, laughing and talking up a storm. Recently he has started reaching for objects and playing with toys. I love being a mom...it's so much fun to watch my son grow and learn.

House Hunting and Visit with the Frickes

After Stacey's wedding, Paul, Caleb and I went to Columbus, MS to look for houses, since that is where we are moving next. We really weren't interested in buying a house yet, but wanted to see the area. We also checked out the brand new base housing, which is another option for us. We stayed with our friends Rich and Heather and their little girl, Elizabeth. We had a great time catching up with them and are excited about joining them in a few months.

On our way home, we stopped in Atlanta to stay with my mom. While we were there, we got to see some old friends of mine, the Frickes. I used to babysit for Megan and Aggie, their two girls, when I was in high school. We've kept in touch over the years, but I hadn't seen them since Megan was about 3 years old...until February, when my mom and I visited when I was pregnant. I promised I would bring Caleb when he was born, so we took some time to stop by their house on the way home. It was so fun to see them! What a sweet family! I still can't believe the girls are all grown up. Seems like just yesterday I was playing "parachute" with Megan and she was calling me "Hay-yay!" Now she's old enough to babysit my son!

Stacey's Wedding

My cousin, Stacey, got married on July 25. She and Kevin had a very nice ceremony and reception. Here are a few photos from our time in Birmingham.

July 2009

For the 4th of July, Paul was asked to lead the children's parade down our street. He ran his lights and sirens that he has for volunteering with the fire department. This was a lot of fun for him. And the kids really seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately, he had to leave for a trip right after the parade, so he didn't get to enjoy the festivities at the block party.

This is a movie. Click on it to watch the parade in front of our house.

On July 5 my air conditioning went out. Not a good month for the AC to go out in SC...it's HOT here! And, of course, it happened the day after Paul left on his trip. Thankfully, we have a friend who works in the heating and air business, so I called him up and he came over to take a look. He said my ducts needed to be cleaned, so I put new ones in. However, it didn't help. So the next morning he sent one of his guys to assess the problem. First it was the compressor. So I waited a few days for that to get here, and it was installed. Still no AC. Then it was the condensing coils. That took another week because the part had to ship from Iowa. All in all it was 11 days before I had air again. NOT FUN...especially with a baby! My sweet neighbors let me borrow their window unit, which I put downstairs and hung sheets over the doorways to keep the cool air in a small area of the house. So ghetto, but it worked pretty well. I finally got tired of dealing with it and went to stay with my friend Heather and her family. That was so much better...and we had a lot of fun! She has the sweetest kids, and they are so well behaved! I didn't want to leave them. Here are a few pictures.
